Inspired by the ocean edges of Nova Scotia and the treasures brought in by the tides, Caitlyn Purcell has created jewellery that evokes salt water and its metamorphosing effects. Silver cast crab claws, bone beading, hand harvested crystal rings, beach coal broaches and seaweed-esque beading are the direct result of Purcell's beachcombing days. Stop by Lost & Found this May to experince this breathtaking show and it's foreshadowing of summer days.

Stop by Lost & Found (2383 Agricola St.) to see artwork by the best person: Rachael Parsons

here's a bit of the press release I wrote for the show:

What You See is What You Get is the 3rd art show Halifax's Rachael Parsons has exhibited at Lost & Found. This show is an extension of the completely absurd yet totally familiar characters of Parsons' subconscious. The portraits evoke strange repressed memories of that guy you always saw at the bus stop and your friends Aunt that went out for cigarettes and a can of Pepsi and never returned. The show consists of Parsons' drawn/painted portraits and hand-puff-painted t-shirts. What You See is What You Get may imply simplicity, but there is a depth to the work and the artist that cannot be ignored, only imagined.

David Hoffos! David Hoffos! David Hoffos!
!!!
My mind is still bent after seeing the David Hoffos installation
Scenes from the House Dream at the AGNS a few weeks ago.
I recommend it to everyone, the installation is composed of dioramas with video projections and the genius arrangement of mirrors, video and light.
I was lucky to go through the show with one of the installers who gave some insight on "how did he do that?" but I will keep those insights to myself and leave you with the mystery.
The show is on display until July 18th and if you head down to the AGNS Thursday nights they have pay what you can admission!

I had an impromptu Easter in Sackville NB, and was lucky to catch "Our Protector" by John Haney which is on display for a month at a building whose name I did not catch, on Lorne St. The aluminum moose rack gilded with over 1000 sheets of 24 karat gold leaf was sent to Haney in Sackville for a few touchups after 4 months in The Rooms Gallery in St.John's Newfoundland. You can still spy some foot and fingerprints in the gold as well as faint lines of 'Janelle' etched on the piece. It was wonderful.

From Feb 25th to April 3rd the Eyelevel Gallery Gottigen is holding the 4th Eyelevel Re-shelving Initiative. The gallery presents a collection of printed matter, book-works and artist multiples on a biennial basis to promote the work of emerging and established artists as well as replenish their great Bookstore collection. I haven't been by yet so I borrowed this photo from one of the Re-shelving contributors Conundrum Press.

I thought that making a Granny Square blanket like the talented Sandra Juto (pictured above) would be great project for the winter, then I realized that I couldn't even crochet so I bought a nice blanket at the flea market instead.
