M is for Movies
Felt lucky to watch Poetry by Lee Chang-dong the other day. Its a story about an aging and stylish woman who signs up for poetry class at a time when she is forgetting common nouns. She struggles to write a poem but is stoic about her Grandson's involvement in a tragedy and her diagnosis of Alzheimer's. Its a beautiful film, and a pleasure to watch actress Yun Jung-hee
K is for Kitchen
I can't believe I hadn't heard about My New Roots by the time I heard about My New Roots. It is the ideal cooking blog for delicious and healthy food from cook Sarah B, there are amazing vegan and raw options as well as winter warming remedies and the most thoughtful and informative nutritional details.
Here's a link to the Reader Recipe Challenge pdf just compiled that will inspire some dishes featuring root vegetables.
I is for Interiors
Lately I've had a real fancy for wooden objects, this fancy has been fulfilled many times by the photos on Ashley Rose Helvey's blog. These are images from her home, I love the sun bleached look of the wood, natural and functional furniture-sculptures.
H is for Happiness
I've been keeping busy, and am proud to present The Periodical Project.
This is a digital version of the striking newsprint which features emerging Halifax art. The inaugural issue's theme was Economy and was distributed to the masses during Nocturne.
Not only does the paper showcase the thought provoking and eye stimulating work of 13 local artists, the Arts Directory listings are a the perfect accompaniment showcasing the depth of art in our community. This online issue is great especially with linking web action, but if you have a chance to get your hands on a printed copy it's really the best medium for the work. (Lost & Found will have a stack soon :)
Chris Foster and I curated the paper, I am not worthy of his amazing partnership but will happily revel in it !

E is for Embroidery
Yesterday was Agnes' 1st birthday! I had finished this embroidery for her last month but finally just put it up, she loves her crate, it's her special place. Just like the bathtub is my special place.... Agnes does not find the bathtub special. Anyway about the embroidery, I'm trying to put a lot of sample time in these days because I've decided to undergo an extremely ambitious project with ye-ol needle and floss. You'll have to patiently wait for an official posting on that project.... probably 2016ish.
D is for Dance
I want to dance!
So I am organizing a Danse Club for people who don't want to go to dance clubs! It's tonight, June 30th, 8pm-9:30 pm at the Capoeira Studio on 2827 Isleville.
The objective is for everyone to come out and have a good time (for the low cost of $2) I'm having a great time choreographing the Danse Club tumblr!

A is for Art
Palimpsest is a collective of artists, writers, editors, curators and designers, endeavoring to create nonstandard venues for the exhibition and distribution of media and art.
Palimpsest Magazine is a heterogeneous anthology of multiples: a magazine in a box. Each issue is comprised of print, audio, textile, video, etc., and tied together via theme and design. Palimpsest is an alternative medium for artists and writers to disseminate their ideas – one which celebrates the tactility of the object in favour of the flattening effect of traditional print and screen-based media. Each issue exists as a traveling exhibition, an experiential object.
I was so lucky to host my friends of Palimpsest after their exhibit opening The Workers Installing a Work at the Khyber on June 9th. The show runs until July 7th and includes work by Burghard, Willie Brisco, Craig Leonard, Bridget Moser, Robin Simpson and Jacqueline Lachance. I'll definitely be stopping downtown for another look, I think you should too. But in the meantime let's enjoy the online aspects of The Workers Installing a Work :
Craving a little interaction? 'Required Field is a free online service that provides digital visual matter in exchange for user determined data input'. Just fill in the blanks and you will eventually be sent a jpeg of the image your data comprised, the culmination of these images will be displayed at the Khyber.
The Library is an open call for the submission of PDF's pertaining to work and outsourcing in all of its forms, the call lasts the duration of the exhibit (July 7th) and all submissions are unedited/uncensored.
